Because the first thing you think of when you think Ikea is food (What's that? You think hex-head wrenches?), Eater has a sneak peek at some of the Swedish smörgåsbord that will be on offer at the Red Hook store when it opens next Wednesday.
It's a bit hard to tell what's going on in some of the photos, but die-hard Ikeaheads will find it worth a gander anyway, I'm sure. Me, I'm more excited about the Ikea Ferry Hack that will allow you to access the Red Hook Vendors—once they finally open.

Or, 'Would You Like to Touch My Monkey?'
From Eater's "Gatekeepers" series, in which the blog talks to front-of-the-house staff about their domains, comes this bizarre incident related by George Atterbury, general manager of Grayz:
What's the most outrageous request from a customer that you couldn't accommodate?
A customer wanted to dine with their pet monkey in the restaurant. Literally we had a guest walk into the restaurant hand in hand with a monkey and asked to be seated at the best possible table. I have been witness to a lot of different requests since coming from The Modern but that definitely has topped any request. The monkey was even wearing a little Burberry jacket.

In the New York Times today restaurant critic Frank Bruni rightfully calls out Fiamma for precipitously raising its prices after Bruni's 3-star review. In commenting on Bruni's post, our friends at Eater suggest that this kind of review-driven price-gouging is standard operating procedure for New York restaurants.
I have to say I'm mystified by Eater's assertion. I can't think of another restaurant in recent memory that excessively and instantly raised its prices after being reviewed favorably, other than Country, the other example Bruni himself cited. I emailed Eater for a comment, and I've yet to hear back from them.

Thanks to our friends at Eater, I've spent the morning contemplating my fourteen favorite birthday cake toppings, fillings, and frostings in New York. I've even added one more for good measure. Think of the fifteenth as the cherry on top. These are for you, Ben Leventhal.

Earlier this week Eater published a letter by restaurateur Keith McNally that impugned the integrity of Frank Bruni, the New York Times, and me. In the post McNally called into question the propriety of New York Times restaurant critic Frank Bruni mentioning the book I wrote with Esca chef and partner Dave Pasternack in Bruni's review of Esca a few weeks ago.
According to McNally, Bruni and I are friends and therefore it was inappropriate for Bruni to mention the book in his review.
I have held my fire until now, when I feel compelled to set the record straight about McNally, about Bruni, and about Eater.

Our friends at eater claim that the best burger in downtown nyc is at Lure Fish Bar. Is this possible?
